President Noah Butler called the meeting to order.
All rose for the Pledge Of Allegiance. Secretary Whitney McBride read the previous meeting minutes. Mia Jones made a notion to accept and Rachael Sutton seconded.
Reporter Matt Sanford read the upcoming week’s Announcements.
The “Fill The Bus” canned food drive was a great success. Panola College SGA was able to raise many canned goods during our food drive with Wiley College. Wiley College expressed their gratitude to Panola for our participation and asked that we would be a part of next year’s event as well. Wiley hopes to host the second annual “Fill The Bus” food drive by this time next year.
The “Howl After Dark” event sponsored by the Media Arts Club was very impressive! There were many talented voices heard as well as a few interesting skits performed. Congratulations to the Media Arts Club for another great success!
The SGA/Media Arts Club will be meeting on Saturday to make preparations for the Christmas in Carthage Parade float. We will meet on Monday to assemble the float. Parade starts at 7pm.
*The Bonfire was not permitted due to city ordinances.
The Media Arts Club announced that they will begin hosting “Open Mic” night once a month starting in the Spring.
Noah Butler went over a list of available options for SGA participation in the upcoming Spring semester.
Mr. Naples made a notion to accept the annual 5k event on April 6th. Noah Butler seconded. All were in favor.
Noah Butler made a notion for the SGA trip to Austin from February 4th -5th. Mia Jones seconded with all in favor.
Noah Butler made a notion that the SGA participate in the annual Spring Fling event. The notion included the release of $200.00 from the SGA funds. Rachael Sutton seconded with all in favor.
Mr. Naples made a notion to create “Panola Green Out Day” on March 2nd. This would be a day to show off our Panola spirit by supporting the Ponies at their last Basketball game of the season. Rachael Sutton seconded with all in favor.
After considering what a success the SGA had last year with attending the Blue Man Group performance, Mr. Naples suggested a notion to attend again in the Spring. Noah Butler made a notion to attend the Blue Man Group performance on May 3rd or 4th. Mr. Naples seconded with all in favor.
The idea for a ” Safety Week” had been proposed last year by former SGA officers. Mr. Naples explained the concept and made the notion to create a “Safety Week”. Amye Powers seconded with all in favor.
Noah Butler made a notion to feed residents on Move – In day on January 13th on the condition that Resident Life can assist with funds. Rachael Sutton seconded with all in favor.
Mr. Naples made a notion to combine the remaining funds in the account for the SGA Austin Trip in February and the TJCSGA Convention in April for a total of $1,600.00 toward both events. SGA would attend both events if financial assistance can be made. Noah Butler seconded with all in favor.
Jessica Soto made a notion to take a trip to the Diamond Crater. Noah Butler seconded with all in favor.
After restating the SGA’s remaining funding, Mr. Naples made the suggestion that the Diamond Crater trip be an event for the Caddo Club. Mr. Naples made the notion to withdraw from the Diamond Crater trip. Rachael Sutton seconded with all in favor.
Therefore, the Spring 2013 semester will consist of the following with few activities still tentative.
